Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who can apply to learn language with a tutor?

Ukrainians of all ages, who have been forced to relocate to a foreign country because of the Russian aggression or who are about to relocate, can apply.

What level of foreign language do I need to have?

From zero to advanced. We will do our best to find you a tutor that matches your level.

Do I have to know any other language except Ukrainian or Russian?

You don't need to know any other language. However, the pool of tutors who speak the foreign language and Ukrainian/Russian is smaller so it may take longer to find a match in this case.

Are there 1-on-1 classes or group lessons?

Both options are available. In the registration form please indicate whether you would like to have 1-on-1 lessons or you are open to group lessons.

Will the classes be free?

Yes, we are working with tutors who want to teach on a volunteer basis.

Who are the tutors that Tutors4Ukraine recruits?

They are volunteers with different backgrounds who are willing to teach Ukrainian a foreign language. Tutors might have or not have prior tutoring experience. Before we recruit a tutor we conduct an interview with each of them.

What should I do if the tutor I was given does not suit me or does not show up for class?

If you have problems with your tutor, please reach out to us and we would be happy to assist you to find a replacement.

How are classes conducted, online or in a meeting?

We recommend conducting classes online using Zoom, Skype or another platform at your discretion.

How many hours a week can I practice with a tutor?

Please determine how often you would like to meet with a tutor, according to your needs and availability. Classes can be held from 1-2 times per week to 3-5. We will try to find the tutor most suitable for your needs.

How do you introduce me to a tutor?

Once the match is made we will send you an email and then we introduce you to a tutor in Slack. There will be a private chat only for you and your tutor where you will be able to communicate.

What happens after you introduce me to a tutor?

When we introduce you to a tutor we help you organize and jumpstart your lesson. After that you communicate directly with the tutor, agree on a schedule, and a platform you will use. And if you have any questions you are welcome to reach out to us directly in Slack or via email.

How long do I have to wait until you find me a tutor?
